survival / realization

(Down the road from your memory track 5)

Survival

you’re gonna make me lonesome when you go

singin’ with the crickets about the blues

the frog is croaking of her love for toad

losing you will be the end of my fuse

and no I can’t remember what I’m thinkin’

the music in the world is too intense

crescendo like I had too much to drink

so high off a whiff of your old incense

never felt something so slow or easy

our curves mirrored in the purple clover

I always thought heartbreak was so cheesy

you’re (a) river too wide for crossing over

when we were together time flew away

I’m grateful for my first love yesterday

Realization

those scenes which of we make so dear our lives

brush strokes like Frida and Sappho would write

prose bringing love up to our open door

frustrating life bouncing like its a club

mama you came home late one night from dancing

toil in cornered darkness upon your face

trauma wanders by when you least expect

yard soil in your hair I saw you fainted

don’t tell me that one day you’ll have to leave

in my reflection I can see your eyes

rowing swampy waters without you is

sinning in some way I can’t define

when we’re together time flies a long way

then I guess I’ll treasure this moment of today
